Payment processing fee calculator
Turn one merchant statement into a number you can compare. Your entries stay in this browser and are not uploaded or saved.
Find your effective rate
Use totals from one complete statement period. Enter Canadian-dollar amounts before tax.
Enter processed sales and total fees to calculate.
Model a proposed offer
Enter only the numbers shown in the quote. This estimate is not a promise of future cost.
A percentage is the start—not the whole answer.
The effective rate is useful because it combines many statement charges into one diagnostic number. It does not predict the future by itself: card mix, ticket size, refunds, online sales, premium cards, equipment and contract terms all matter.
- Compare the same statement period and transaction mix.
- Ask whether the quote includes every recurring charge.
- Keep credit, Interac debit and card-not-present assumptions clear.
Before you compare quotes
How do I calculate my effective processing rate?+
Divide total processing-related fees for one statement period by processed card sales for that same period, then multiply by 100.
Which fees should I include?+
Include processing, network, transaction, monthly, gateway, PCI, software and terminal charges that are part of accepting payments. Keep taxes and unrelated services consistent when comparing offers.
Does a lower effective rate guarantee a better agreement?+
No. Hardware, software, support, deposit timing, cancellation terms and the mix of credit, debit, keyed and online transactions can change the value of an offer.
